Packing for a safari in Tanzania isn’t about looking like you stepped out of a safari movie—it’s about being practical and prepared. From cool mornings to hot afternoons, here’s everything you need to make your journey comfortable, safe, and unforgettable.

Clothing

You don’t need specialized safari gear to enjoy your adventure. Focus on lightweight, breathable clothes that keep you cool during the day and warm during early morning game drives. Neutral colors like khaki, olive, and beige are great for blending into the environment, but don’t stress too much—comfort is key!

Shirts: Light long-sleeved shirts are best for sun protection, but short sleeves work too.
Pants/Shorts: Zip-off pants are loved by any guests! Mornings can be cool, but by midday, you’ll want shorts.
Jacket/Fleece: Evenings and mornings can get chilly, especially in higher elevations.
UV Protection: Clothing with built-in UV protection adds an extra layer of safety under the strong African sun.
Hat: A wide-brimmed hat is essential to protect your face and neck from the intense sun. Look for one with breathable fabric and a chin strap to keep it secure during windy game drives.
Sunglasses: A wide-brimmed hat is essential to protect your face and neck from the intense sun. Look for one with breathable fabric and a chin strap to keep it secure during windy game drives.
Face Buff: A lightweight face buff or scarf is perfect for protecting against dust during game drives. It also doubles as extra warmth on cooler mornings.

Footwear

Comfort matters more than heavy-duty boots. Opt for reliable, closed-toe shoes that handle walking and uneven terrain with ease.

Safari Boots/Sneakers: Great for bush walks and exploring.
Sandals: Ideal for lounging around camp or relaxing after a day of adventure.

Gear

Tanzania’s landscapes and wildlife deserve to be remembered. Bring the right equipment to document your journey.

Camera: Some guests bring specialized equipment but MANY guests simply bring their phones.
Binoculars: Spot animals that are farther away (Note that we have 1 pair of binoculars as well!)
Power Adaptor: The lodges and luxury campgrounds have electricity but you do require an adaptor that aligns with East African standards.

Personal Care: Stay Safe and Healthy

You’ll be spending hours outdoors, so come prepared.

Sunscreen: High SPF to protect against strong sun exposure.
Insect Repellent: Keep mosquitoes and bugs at bay.
Hand Sanitizer & Wet Wipes: Perfect for quick clean-ups.

Extras That Make a Difference

It’s the little things that can make your safari smoother.

Reusable Water Bottle: Stay hydrated and reduce plastic waste.
Travel Journal: Capture your thoughts and memorable moments.

Less is More

Space in safari vehicles is limited, and most internal flights have strict weight limits (usually around 15 kg per person). Pack light in bags rather with no wheels and focus on the essentials—you’ll thank yourself later!

With these items in your bag, you’re ready to embrace the adventure that awaits in Tanzania.

Karibu sana—welcome to the heart of Africa!
